Goûter à l'alpage

‘Alpage’, the French word for the high mountain pastures used once the snow melts, conjures up visions of Heidi and other childhood memories. Imagine the freshly cut hay and mountain flowers, the rolling slopes, the stunningly beautiful scenery, and farmers labouring away to make their famous Abondance cheese.

Marie-Jeanne and Lionel are two young farmers whose aim is to perpetuate traditional methods of mountain cattle-farming. Day after day they put all their energy and courage into this project. This summer, on Thursdays, they invite you up to their ‘alpage’, where their chalet is set in one of the most beautiful places in the whole Abondance valley. In their company you can discover the farming way of life, today and in the past, and have a snack of home-made produce. Their mountain farm is about half-an-hour’s walk away.
